1.About FlyerAlerte

FlyerAlerte is a price-comparison and grocery-planning platform that lets users browse flyers, compare prices and build personalized baskets.

The platform is operated by FlyerAlerte, a business established in Quebec, Canada.

2.Person in charge of personal information protection

The person accountable for the protection of personal information within our organization is FlyerAlerte Privacy Officer.

3.Applicable laws

FlyerAlerte complies with the following laws:

• Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) – Canada.
• Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Quebec – Law 25).

4.Information you provide to us

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service. Depending on how you use the platform, we may collect the information below. Creating an account is optional, but it unlocks additional features.

• Email address.
• First and last name (optional).
• Year of birth or age range (optional).
• Information related to your user account, if you create one.
• Saved baskets and the products you add to them.
• Grocery, store and display preferences.
• Notification choices (email or SMS) and consent to receive commercial messages.
• Billing: if you subscribe, our payment provider processes your payment method. We retain only a subscription identifier, the subscription status and billing history — never your card number.

5.Information collected automatically

When you use the platform, certain technical information is collected automatically. This data is used for statistical purposes, service improvement and security.

• IP address.
• Device and browser type.
• Pages viewed.
• Interactions with the platform (clicks, filters, comparisons).

6.Purposes of collection

Personal information is collected solely to:

• provide and operate the platform;
• create and secure your account, and personalize your experience;
• compute the price comparisons you request and let you save baskets and preferences;
• manage your subscription and its billing;
• send transactional communications and the alerts you enabled;
• improve the performance and features of the service;
• ensure security and prevent fraud, abuse and fraudulent use;
• analyze user age groups so we can adapt the service to our target audience.

7.Consent

We do not use your information for purposes incompatible with those set out above.

We do not collect personal information without your consent, except where the law permits or requires it. You may withdraw consent at any time; some features will then stop being available.

8.Suppliers and subcontractors

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We rely on a limited number of third-party suppliers to operate the platform; each one only has access to the information strictly necessary for its function.

9.Hosting and data processing

Personal information is hosted and processed on recognized cloud infrastructure, in a PostgreSQL database we administer.

These suppliers are selected based on their security guarantees and their compliance with applicable standards, and apply industry-standard measures to protect data against unauthorized access, loss or alteration. Contractual agreements govern the processing of personal information where required.

10.Information disclosed outside Quebec

Some of our providers process or host information outside Quebec, including in the United States. Before disclosing personal information outside Quebec, we conduct a privacy impact assessment to confirm the information would receive adequate protection, and we govern the disclosure by a written agreement.

You may ask the person in charge of personal information protection for details about the countries involved.

11.Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the platform working (keeping you signed in, remembering your language and theme), to analyze site usage and to improve the user experience.

Non-essential cookies (analytics, for example) are used only after we obtain your consent, through a cookie banner compliant with Law 25.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time from your browser settings or the tools provided on the platform. The site remains usable if you refuse cookies, but you will have to sign in more often.

12.Email communications

We may send you transactional communications necessary to operate the service: the alerts you enabled, sign-in codes, confirmations and information related to your account or billing.

Marketing communications, if any, will always be subject to separate consent and will offer an unsubscribe option compliant with applicable laws.

13.Automated decisions and profiling

We use no automated decision-making process producing legal or significant effects concerning users. Comparisons and recommendations are computed from the products you add to a basket yourself, based on general rules and public data.

No identification, location or profiling technology is activated without your knowledge. If we were to activate one, it would be deactivated by default and you would be informed beforehand.

14.Your rights

Subject to the exceptions provided by law, you may:

• access the personal information we hold about you;
• have it corrected if it is inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous;
• withdraw your consent, subject to legal obligations;
• request deletion of your personal information and closure of your account;
• request that we cease disseminating information about you, or de-index a hyperlink giving access to it;
• receive, since 2024, the information you provided to us in a structured, commonly used technological format (portability);
• file a complaint with Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information if you are dissatisfied with our response.

15.Retention and destruction

Requests can be sent by email to confidentialite@flyeralerte.ca.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. After your account is deleted, we destroy or anonymize your information within a reasonable period of up to 60 days, subject to billing records that tax law requires us to keep.

16.Information security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational security measures, including:

• restricted access to data, limited to people who need it to perform their duties;
• secure hosting;
• encryption of communications (SSL/TLS);
• limitation of administrative access.

17.Confidentiality incidents

As no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we commit to applying recognized best practices.

We maintain a register of confidentiality incidents in accordance with the law. Where an incident presents a risk of serious injury, we promptly notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and the individuals concerned, and take reasonable measures to reduce the consequences.

18.Children and minors

The service is not directed at people under 14. We do not knowingly collect the personal information of a child under 14 without the consent of the person having parental authority.

19.Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect legal, technical or operational changes. The date of the last update appears at the top of this page.

Where a change is significant, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice on the site before it takes effect.
